Screencasting

Uses in the Classroom

Screencasting could be used to introduce technologies with active, on-screen demonstrations; discuss projects or assignments; give feedback; introduce selves or classmates; etc. This kind of multimedia is incredibly useful because it creates a multimodal experience, which many students find to be more helpful than a single mode of communication--not to mention that's far more engaging. This adds some interaction and some vitality to course content!

Issues to Consider

The technology requirements would need to be posted and discussed. Links to free tools would be great! If this kind of activity was required in a face-to-face class, time would need to be set aside for students to pose questions and to complete the activity. Online courses might find the use of tutorials useful.
